Hello. No yelling today. It's my volunteer day so I won't be home. I do have incentive to finish my project now, though. Another friend has asked me to help decorate the new baby's room so I have to finish this first.... preferably before the baby comes.
Hoodie, I'm sorry your job is causing that kinda stress. Is there any way you could amuse yourself while there? What exactly is it that gets you bummed? Are the people jerks or is the work just that boring or do you have "those" kinds of customers?
You scared me for a minute, Keesa. I haven't had my coffee yet and I was thinking you were going to Mass. I was about to yell at you about the Mason Dixon line thing. Then again, I grew up so far South that everything past Baton Rouge seems Yankee to me.

my boss is such an A-hole, and he is constantly picking me apart and LOADING on the work, and i still have classes and homework and tests. im scheduled to work every other day, MWF one week and then TTH the next. but he expects me to come in every single day. im hired as part time but im working over full time hours. it pays good, and i need the experience but i dont know how long i can go without having a breakdown. i literally hate waking up in the morning because i know i have an entire day there. and i dont know what mistake he will find next.
...well im off to h3ll, please pray i survive the day

Ugh, that sucks Hoodie.
Do you have some kind of written contract or something that states you are only supposed to work part-time? Can you talk to an HR person? More importantly, can you apply for overtime pay since you are technically working over your alloted hours? You might want to check with your local employment agencies to see what you are able to do. Any other suggestions I have may get you fired, but at this point they would also be very gratifying.

Hoodie, how long have you been working there? If it's only been a few weeks, try to find another part-time job. It's not worth getting all that stress and near emotional breakdowns. Yes, you get good experience and pay from this job but is it really worth it? Is all of that really worth your health and well-being? If you can't leave this job, just try to hang in there. It's strange that your boss works you more than what a part-time employee should be doing. Do you get paid more for working these extra hours? Because I don't think an employer can force a part-time student to work full time hours or more. Because you the employee agreed with the employer to a contract to work part-time only. I guess it's different in Cali.

How does he express his expectations of you working longer hours? "Hey Hoodie, I know your off tomorrow, but I really need you here" or "See you tomorrow" or "I hope you don't think you're leaving until that gets done" ?? Are you reading more into it than really is there? I know when I work with temps or part-time contractors I always forget they aren't full-time. If they don't balk, I'd never realize I made the mistake.
And by the way, are you learning anything? Or are you just getting slammed because he treats you as his sport hunting?
My simple rule is if you aren't getting equal or greater out of job than the effort you are putting into it - leave. If you are working hard, but are making good money and learning tons, than I suggest you buckle down and learn what you have to in order to move on. If you are just sweatshop status, and the whip marks aren't there because you’re into it... then pursue other interests.
It's all easy on paper though... and I know life decisions aren't usually so easy
Good luck in working it out....

I'd have to agree with the previous two posts ... Night and Dumb in case someone posts before I finish here ... my initial advice would be to bump your concerns to the HR department ... however if you've only been there for a short time it may well just be worth it to not bother.
I guess in a perfect world you could sit down and talk with this @$$hole and list out what your issues were ... and what a manager SHOULD do is work through those things with you ... but if you've only been there for a short while, they could always turf you on your ass, and claim that you never made it through the probationary period ...
Hang tough grrrrrl ... you'll always have us to cheer you up!!!

well call the wage and labor board, your local unemployment office can give you the number, it is illegal for you to work off the clock for ANY reason, my general manager is about to lose his job over it

This is illegal in the u.s., call your human resources department. Any work you do they have to pay you. That includes overtime.
You never know, he may be skimming somthing off the top for himself by making you work those hours but not paying you for them. I've seen worse.

if you call the company they will just try to cover it up, and probably torment you until you quit, your better off screwing them and and going to the wage and labor department

its really pretty messed up, a lot of places are like this i guess, i was told at work that i wasnt doing my job(which was a lie) and i was going to take a cut in pay from $8.50 an hour back down to $5.50 an hour, so i threatened to tell on the things i know they do wrong there
well, that got my hours cut in half, and about every day i get called in the office and i have a big screaming match with one of the managers, two of the three want me gone, other one has my side, but he is the lowest of them, so his opinion is quite irrelevant
i have got several other employee's who have been messed with to back me, and make anonymous calls to corporate, and different government offices, the state said they will be investigating them about a month from now, so i am just trying to hang on until it happens, even though rules are now much different for me at work, and i have to watch what i say around the suck ups that back the managers in all this
all in all though i feel less stress at work now then i did before, because i am standing up for myself, and not letting them work me for free.
you shouldnt let them get away with it, because if you let them do it , they will, every time

Do you get paid for EVERY hour, or just the hours you are supposed to work? If you get paid the part-time pay rate but full-time hours, you really should check with the employment agencies to make sure you aren't getting shafted. If he's gonna work you for full-time hours, make sure you can at least get on salary or an even better hourly rate.
I'd agree with the others though. Call wage and labor. Then you will at least know your rights in the situation.
